About the role

Are you a skilled actuarial leader with a knack for driving value and efficiency? Join our team at Youi as an Actuarial Manager, where you'll guide the Commercial Actuarial Team in the pricing department. Your role will involve applying actuarial principles to solve key business challenges, implementing best practices, and enhancing efficiencies. You'll also be responsible for coaching and developing your team to support our sustainable growth.

To excel, you'll need experience in commercial pricing, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong stakeholder management and a curious mindset are key to thriving in this dynamic role.

Ways of working

We invite candidates from Sydney or Brisbane to apply. Our hybrid working model requires office attendance from Tuesday to Thursday at your selected location.

Key priorities

  • Analyse risk rating and underwriting features, including portfolio mix and trends over time.
  • Apply scientific principles to rating and underwriting processes.
  • Identify discrepancies between outcomes and expectations, and propose necessary adjustments to rating, underwriting, or product.
  • Design, enhance, and deliver essential reports to business areas, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and thorough documentation.
  • Interact with sales teams to support client underwriting referrals, responding to queries promptly and applying consistent underwriting decisions.
  • Maintain acceptable performance across all key areas, adapting to changing business requirements.
  • Foster a positive team environment by developing members' technical pricing expertise and business acumen while promoting a strong team culture.

About you

  • Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience in General Insurance, with commercial lines pricing experience considered a plus (5+ years is a general indicator).
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Passion for leading and motivating a team.
  • Keen attention to detail and capability to perform well under pressure.
  • Effective time management and experience handling multiple projects.
  • High level of integrity and professional accountability.
  • Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
